Debate between Kamla Harris and Donald Trump : Will make or break election results

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee / 10th September 2024

Tuesday’s debate between Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and Republican Candidate for U.S. President Donald Trump could be the first and last in their intense campaign for the presidency.
Eight weeks before the Nov. 5 election, ABC News will conduct a debate on Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET (0100 GMT). Both candidates are in a close race that may still go either way. In some states, early voting will begin just a few days following the debate.
The meeting is especially significant for Harris because, in contrast to the well-known Trump, opinion polls indicate that over 25% of probable voters believe they do not yet know enough about her.

The former prosecutor Harris will have an opportunity to present her case against Trump at the nationally broadcast debate. Trump’s record of felonies, vocal support for followers found guilty of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, and repeated lies provide ample opportunity for her to do so.
The two candidates will meet for the first time after weeks of racist and misogynistic remarks about Harris coming from Trump and his supporters.
Trump has been advised by his advisors and fellow Republicans to concentrate on Tuesday’s speech on themes that will appeal to voters, such as illegal immigration and high pricing, and to paint Harris as too liberal for the nation.

Although they don’t always change the outcome, presidential debates have the power to alter the dynamics of a contest. In the end, President Joe Biden decided to get out of the race against Trump because of his disastrous showing in June.
In a race that might once more come down to tens of thousands of votes in a few states, even a tiny change in public sentiment could determine the winner. Based on polling averages calculated by the New York Times, the two candidates are virtually tied in the seven battleground states that are expected to determine the outcome of the election.

Since Thursday, Harris has been getting ready in Pittsburgh, including practice sessions on a lit stage that mimics the atmosphere of a debate. Former Hillary Clinton advisor Philippe Reines is portraying Trump.
Instead of practicing, Trump has relied on unofficial meetings with advisors, campaign stops, and media appearances to prepare for Tuesday. Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who famously sparred with Harris during a Democratic presidential debate in 2019, has offered advice.
