On Monday, Britain was preparing for additional snow, rain, and flooding as extreme weather affected road and rail transport, compelling airports in northern England to temporarily shut their runways, which resulted in delays for numerous flights.

The Met Office issued alerts for snow, ice, and rain in many parts of the UK, while the Environment Agency indicated that flooding was anticipated at over 150 sites because of rainfall and snowmelt. According to Britain’s National Rail, flooding or intense rain has postponed or cancelled numerous trains.

National Highways reported that several key roads in northern and central England were closed because of snow or flooding. On Monday morning, Manchester Airport briefly shut its runways because of heavy snowfall, mirroring a decision made by Liverpool Airport the previous day.

“Manchester Airport announced that some departures and arrivals might still face delays after the runways were reopened.” The Met Office reported that some areas of the UK experienced their coldest night of the winter to date, with temperatures in certain regions of Scotland dropping to minus 13.3 degrees Celsius (8.1 Fahrenheit).
