On Sunday, the Israeli military instructed Palestinians to leave regions in northern Gaza prior to escalated conflict with Hamas, while U.S. President Donald Trump urged for a conclusion to the war as new attempts were made to negotiate a ceasefire.

“Make the deal in Gaza, get the hostages back,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform early on Sunday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was scheduled to meet later in the day regarding the status of Israel’s military campaign. A high-ranking security official noted that the military will inform him that the campaign is nearing its goals and caution that extending combat to other regions in Gaza could jeopardize the remaining Israeli hostages.

Meanwhile, in a message shared on X and via text to numerous residents, the military advised individuals in the northern sections of the enclave to move south towards the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Younis, identified by Israel as a humanitarian zone. Palestinian and U.N. representatives state that no place in Gaza is secure.

The evacuation directive included the Jabalia region and the majority of districts in Gaza City. Medics and locals reported that the Israeli military’s shelling intensified early in Jabalia, flattening multiple homes and claiming the lives of at least six individuals. In the southern area of Khan Younis, five fatalities occurred due to an airstrike targeting a tent settlement close to Mawasi, according to medical personnel.

The intensification occurs as Arab negotiators, Egypt and Qatar, supported by the United States, initiate a renewed ceasefire attempt to stop the ongoing 20-month conflict and facilitate the release of Israeli and foreign captives still held by Hamas. Concern over addressing the Gaza conflict has intensified following the bombings of Iran’s nuclear sites by the U.S. and Israel.

A Hamas representative informed that the organization had notified the mediators of its willingness to continue ceasefire negotiations, while also reiterating its key conditions that any agreement must conclude the conflict and ensure an Israeli withdrawal from the coastal area. Hamas has stated it is prepared to release the remaining hostages in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to still be alive, but only as part of an agreement that will conclude the conflict.
