Armed men tied up employees who were on duty at one of the State Bank of India’s (SBI) branches and stole ₹21 crore worth of cash and gold. The SBI branch in Chadchan town, Vijayapura district, Karnataka, was the scene of the event on Tuesday.

Under the guise of opening a current bank account, three masked men broke into the SBI branch, according to news agency PTI. Armed with knives and homemade handguns, they posed a threat to the manager, cashier, and other staff members.

After tying up the employees’ wrists and feet, the suspects ran away with nearly ₹20 crore in cash and 20 kg of gold. “Take out the cash, otherwise I will kill you,” the branch manager was told, the publication reported.

A case has been filed in response to the bank manager’s complaint, and police have begun a manhunt to find the offenders. After performing the crime, the suspects allegedly drove a Suzuki EVA car with a fictitious license plate in the direction of Pandharpur, Maharashtra. The most recent heist occurred months after Canara Bank’s Managuli branch in the Vijayapura district saw the theft of gold and cash valued at over ₹53.26 crore. Nevertheless, following the crime, assets valued at nearly ₹39.26 crore were retrieved, and 15 individuals were taken into custody.
