In a further rebuke to Republican members spearheading the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s probe into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, former US President Clinton on Friday demanded an on-camera public hearing. He referred to the closed-door investigation as a “kangaroo court,” contending that neither the public nor the victims would gain from it.

Clinton encouraged legislators to “stop the games and do this the right way” if they truly want answers in a series of social media tweets, accusing Committee Chairman James Comer of transforming the proceedings into a politicized exercise.

Clinton stated he has previously given a sworn statement, demanded the complete release of the Epstein papers, and consented to appear in person. Clinton has been mentioned numerous times in court records and flight logs connected to Epstein. He countered that a public hearing would better serve Epstein’s victims and guarantee transparency for the American people, but he objected to what he called “closed-door” depositions.

“I have called for the full release of the Epstein files. I have provided a sworn statement of what I know. And just this week, I’ve agreed to appear in person before the committee. But it’s still not enough for Republicans on the House Oversight Committee,” Clinton said.

Clinton questioned Comer’s choice to hold closed-door hearing, claiming that neither the public nor Epstein’s victims gain from such a setup. According to the former US president, he “will not sit idly as they use me as a prop in a closed-door kangaroo court by a Republican Party running scared”.

“ If they want answers, let’s stop the games & do this the right way: in a public hearing, where the American people can see for themselves what this is really about,” Clinton concluded.

Earlier, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton’s wife, also pushed for public hearings ahead of her scheduled deposition in the Epstein probe.

“For six months, we engaged Republicans on the Oversight Committee in good faith. We told them what we know, under oath. They ignored all of it. They moved the goalposts and turned accountability into an exercise in distraction,” she wrote on X.

The Epstein files are an extensive collection of court documents, witness statements, depositions, flight logs, and investigative information connected to a convicted sexual offender. Following the recent release of a significant tranche of documents by US authorities, Jeffrey Epstein has continued to be the subject of intense public and political scrutiny. Epstein was found guilty of trafficking and sexually assaulting minors by bringing them to his private island in the US Virgin Islands, where they were transported and sexually assaulted. Court documents and flight logs pertaining to Epstein contained numerous references to Bill Clinton, including information indicating that he had communicated with Epstein after leaving the White House and had taken several flights on his private jet in the early 2000s.
