Guide for Indian Travellers to Experience Japan’s 2026 Cherry Blossom Season

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee/5th March 2026

The famous cherry blossom season in Japan is expected to draw a large number of tourists in 2026, including many visitors from India. Travel experts say that witnessing the iconic pink blooms, known as sakura, requires careful planning regarding travel dates, trip duration and overall budget.

According to travel planners, cherry blossoms typically begin appearing in major Japanese cities towards the end of March. In Tokyo, the flowers are expected to start blooming around March 20, with peak viewing likely by March 25. In Kyoto, blossoms may begin around March 21 and reach their peak by early April. Meanwhile, Osaka is expected to witness the blooming from around March 25, with peak viewing likely around April 1.

Experts note that the exact timing of the bloom can vary depending on weather conditions such as temperature changes or rainfall. Since the peak bloom period generally lasts only about a week, travellers are advised to plan flexible itineraries to maximise their chances of witnessing the flowers at their best.

For Indian travellers, an eight-day trip is often considered ideal for covering the major destinations during the cherry blossom season. However, those looking for a more relaxed experience may opt for a ten-day itinerary, allowing them to explore parks, temples and riverside viewing spots while enjoying cultural experiences and evening blossom illuminations.

Cost is another key factor in planning a cherry blossom trip. Travel experts estimate that a comprehensive tour package from India during the peak season may cost around ₹3.1 lakh to ₹3.25 lakh per person. Such packages usually include airfare, visa processing, travel insurance, accommodation, meals and transportation within Japan, including high-speed train journeys. Due to the popularity of the cherry blossom season, early bookings are strongly recommended. Travel planners advise reserving flights and accommodation several months in advance to avoid rising costs and limited availability.
