Actor Parineeti Chopra has expressed pride in her husband Raghav Chadha for initiating a discussion in Parliament on recognising paternity leave as a legal right in India. Chadha, a Member of Parliament from the Aam Aadmi Party, recently highlighted the need for equitable parental responsibilities during a parliamentary session. He emphasised that childcare should not rest solely on mothers, especially during the critical period following childbirth. His remarks drew attention to the lack of a comprehensive legal framework in India that guarantees paternity leave across all sectors.
Reacting to his speech, Parineeti Chopra shared her appreciation on social media, calling his stance both meaningful and necessary. She noted that his perspective was not just political but also personal, reflecting his involvement as a father. The actor, who welcomed her first child with Chadha in 2025, underlined the importance of both parents actively participating in early childcare.
In his address, Chadha argued that fathers often face challenges balancing professional obligations with family responsibilities due to the absence of structured leave policies. He stressed that the postnatal phase is crucial for the well-being of both mother and child, and the presence of both parents can significantly improve outcomes.
Currently, paternity leave provisions in India are limited and largely restricted to certain government employees, leaving a gap in broader workplace policies. Chadha’s intervention aims to bring attention to this issue and push for reforms that align with evolving family dynamics and gender roles.
The discussion has since sparked wider debate on workplace equality and shared parenting responsibilities. Chopra’s public support has further amplified the conversation, highlighting the growing demand for policies that recognise modern parenting needs and promote a more balanced approach to caregiving.
