In response to Iran’s alleged ballistic missile attacks on US personnel on Tuesday, the US military claims to have finished a “heavy wave” of strikes. In retaliation for Iran firing on US sites in Jordan and at ships in the Strait of Hormuz, Centcom claimed to have struck “dozens” of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets.

Three people, including a two-year-old kid, were killed in the most recent strikes on Qeshm island, according to Iranian official television. Other places in the country’s west and south were also struck. The battle has grown throughout the past week, with the first combined US-Saudi operations against Iranian proxies in Iraq being made public.

Since a ceasefire in April that was intended to halt the months-long conflict broke down in June, Iran and the US have been involved in increasing strikes and counterattacks. Iran has attacked commerce in the crucial Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Gulf and Arabian Seas, and fired missiles and drones at US assets in Middle Eastern nations, while the US has bombed Iranian locations and blockaded Iranian ports.

According to an unidentified US official reported by news outlet Axios on Wednesday, Trump met Saudi defence minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, who expressed Saudi Arabia’s desire to reduce tensions. In the meantime, the Egyptian government claimed that a drone attack was the cause of a fire at a port on Wednesday. There has never been a direct attack on Egypt, an ally of the United States, during the conflict.

After a few days of relative calm, the US-Iran confrontation has resurfaced. Strikes were suspended for days while negotiations reportedly resumed in the hopes of reaching a diplomatic resolution. Although Tehran denied any talks were taking place, Trump referred to them as “very friendly negotiations.”

However, Trump promised to strike back after Iranian missiles attacked a US base in Jordan on Tuesday. He told reporters at the White House, “We’re going to be hitting them very hard because it’s our turn to hit them.” They are aware of its impending arrival. They requested that we refrain from doing it.

Centcom described the most recent round of US strikes, which began at 20:00 ET on Wednesday (01:00 BST on Thursday), as a “powerful response to yesterday’s attempted Iranian attacks on US forces based in the Middle East” and lasted for roughly an hour. According to Centcom, all of Iran’s missiles were intercepted. After the strikes were over, Centcom claimed that the US had attacked “military command centers, missile and drone facilities, coastal surveillance and defence sites, and maritime capabilities.”
