Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated his commitment to public service, declaring that he would continue working for the people of India until his last breath. Speaking at an event in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district, Modi also criticised the Opposition for allegedly spreading misinformation about possible shortages of LPG cylinders and fertilisers amid the ongoing Iran conflict.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came amid a political controversy surrounding Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s comments about him. Without limiting his response to the controversy, Modi emphasised his dedication to the country and said serving its people remained his foremost responsibility.

During his address, Modi accused opposition parties of attempting to create public anxiety by circulating rumours about shortages of essential commodities. He alleged that such claims were intended to undermine confidence in the government and create unnecessary panic among citizens. He maintained that the government was closely monitoring the international situation and taking steps to protect India’s interests.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to safeguard farmers from the impact of rising global fertiliser prices. He said international developments, particularly the conflict involving Iran, had created uncertainty in global markets, but the government was working to ensure that Indian farmers did not bear the full burden of increased costs.

Referring to the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme, Modi highlighted the financial assistance being provided directly to farmers. He underlined the importance of government support in strengthening rural livelihoods and ensuring that cultivators received timely assistance. The scheme provides eligible farmer families with annual financial support through direct benefit transfers.

Modi also used the occasion to highlight the Centre’s development initiatives in Gujarat. He inaugurated the Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre at Bhildi in Banaskantha district and announced several infrastructure and development projects. The initiatives, collectively valued at approximately ₹14,000 crore, are aimed at strengthening regional infrastructure and supporting economic growth.

The bovine research facility is expected to contribute to improvements in livestock breeding, scientific research and the development of the dairy sector. The initiative also reflects the government’s emphasis on improving animal husbandry and expanding opportunities for farmers and livestock owners.

The Prime Minister said development initiatives and welfare programmes were central to the government’s efforts to improve living standards, particularly in rural areas. He stressed that infrastructure expansion, agricultural support and investment in research were important components of India’s broader development strategy. His visit to Banaskantha combined political messaging with the inauguration of development projects, as he sought to highlight the government’s record on farmers’ welfare, agricultural development and infrastructure investment.
