Kharagpur: Political activity within the Kharagpur Municipality intensified after 15 councilors united to oppose the Chairperson and submitted a memorandum to the relevant authorities demanding the tabling of a no-confidence motion. It is reported that the 15 councilors have collectively expressed their disagreement regarding the Chairperson’s functioning and the administration of the municipality.
The councilors allege that their expected roles and importance in municipal operations are being overlooked, leading to mounting dissatisfaction. Amidst this discontent, the councilors took the formal step of submitting the memorandum for a no-confidence motion. The united stance of these 15 councilors has sparked fresh speculation in municipal politics.
The key question now is whether this move by the 15 councilors will sound the death knell for the Chairperson’s tenure. All eyes are now on the subsequent actions regarding the no-confidence motion and how the situation within the municipal board unfolds. This development has also fueled speculation about shifting political equations within the Kharagpur Municipality.
The councilors’ future strategy and administrative actions will clarify whether this opposition is merely a tactic to exert pressure or if the Chairperson is genuinely facing a crisis regarding her majority support. Meanwhile, Kharagpur Municipality Chairperson Kalyani Ghosh declined to comment on the matter. Supriya Basu, the Executive Officer of the Kharagpur Municipality, stated that Kalyani Ghosh would remain the Chairperson until the no-confidence motion is approved, adding that the situation would become clear soon.
