India Thrash Sri Lanka 16-1 in Men’s Hockey at Asian Games 2026

India produced another commanding performance in the men’s hockey competition at the 2026 Asian Games, defeating Sri Lanka 16-1 in their second Pool A match in Kakamigahara, Japan, on Tuesday. The victory followed India’s 13-1 win over Indonesia in their opening game and strengthened the defending champions’ position in the group.

India dominated the contest from the opening minutes and established a substantial lead before half-time. Jugraj Singh was the standout performer, scoring four goals, while Abhishek and Dilpreet Singh completed hat-tricks. Jugraj found the net in the 10th, 22nd, 42nd and 53rd minutes, underlining his influence throughout the match.

Abhishek scored in the 11th, 17th and 49th minutes, while Dilpreet struck in the 30th, 38th and 55th minutes. Their goals added to India’s relentless attacking display as the team repeatedly breached the Sri Lankan defence.

Captain Harmanpreet Singh also contributed to the scoreline, while Manpreet Singh, Mandeep Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad and Sukhjeet Singh scored one goal each. India’s depth in attack allowed the team to maintain pressure throughout the match and create several scoring opportunities.

Sri Lanka managed to score once through Suresh Ratnayake in the 50th minute, but the goal did little to alter the course of the match. India remained firmly in control and continued to add goals in the closing stages. The result gives India two wins from two matches in Pool A. The team had entered the tournament after beginning its campaign with a 13-1 victory against Indonesia, with Dilpreet scoring four times in that match. India’s next challenge will come against stronger opposition as the competition progresses.
