Rules And Fees For Traveling With Your Pet On Indian Railways
If passengers follow the guidelines outlined by the statutory authority, Indian Railways has made it incredibly straightforward for them to travel with their pets. For all types of animals, including elephants, horses, dogs, and birds, the railway department has set rules.
Pet animals like dogs and cats can travel with their owners on their respective excursions, however other large animals must be transported in separate, approved coaches. The regulations that must be followed if you intend to travel with your pets on Indian Railways are listed below.
- Pet dogs may be transported in a dog box in second class and break van luggage by passengers.
- The traveler must reserve the complete coupe—two or four berthed—in the AC First class and First-class sections exclusively if they wish to travel with their pet.
- If the animal is traveling in a dog box, the cost is Rs 30 per kilogram, and if it is traveling in the passenger coach with its owner, the cost is Rs 60 per kilogram.
- If a pet is not ticketed, there will be a penalty of at least Rs. 50 and up to six times the luggage scale charge.
- Pets are not permitted in the compartments of the AC two-tier, AC three-tier, AC chair car, sleeper class, or second class.
- There are dog boxes available for trains like the Rajdhani and Shatabdi.
- According to Indian Railways, pets cannot be reserved in advance. One hour prior to the departure of the trains, they are reserved at the counter.
- Pets must be fed while traveling by the passengers.
According to the policy, when transit, as defined in section 99 of the Railways Act, has ended, Railways will not be liable for the loss, destruction, damage, deterioration, or non-delivery of animals.
