News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/23rd April 2026

Rahul Meena, a teenager, is suspected of raping and strangling the daughter of a senior IRS officer in Delhi on Wednesday morning. He committed the crime by using his understanding of the family’s routine and what is typically kept where in the house.

On Tuesday night, Meena hired a cab to Delhi for Rs 6,000, sold a cell phone for Rs 10,000, and sexually assaulted a friend’s wife in Alwar. After that, he strolled to the South Delhi home of his former employer, a senior IRS officer. What Meena had set out to do was far from over. As seen in CCTV footage, he entered the colony at around 6:30 am and went straight to the woman’s study room, a separate one-room structure built on the terrace.

The victim, a 22-year-old IIT graduate, was preparing for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam when Meena stepped into her room. When she questioned his presence, Meena claimed: “Aunty ne bulaya tha kaam se (Aunty called me for some work).”

Meena entered the room of the victim, a 22-year-old IIT graduate, who was getting ready for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. “Aunty ne bulaya tha kaam se (Aunty called me for some work),” Meena asserted when she questioned his presence.

Then Meena demanded cash. The two got into a furious and quickly violent altercation as a result of her refusal. The woman was strangled with a mobile charging cord after being hit by a lamp, causing damage to her face and torso. The 22-year-old woman was then raped by the accused while she was unconscious.

Meena had intended to rob the residence since he was notorious for taking out loans from neighborhood domestic workers to support his addiction to online gaming. But a thumb impression was the only way to open the house’s locker.

Then he pulled the woman down the stairs and into the room containing the locker after dragging her out of the study. The biometric scanner did not open when he pushed the woman’s blood-stained finger on it.  The biometric scanner may not have recognized the woman’s thumb impression since, according to police sources, she had most likely passed away by that point.

Meena left the woman’s body behind and used a screwdriver to open the locker. He removed money and jewelry and placed them in a bag that was kept close by. Meena took care to take off his bloodstained clothing and put on the woman’s brother’s pants before escaping the house. He grabbed a pair of slippers that were laying around to replace his shoes and ran away.

To avoid attracting unwanted attention, the accused pretended to be on a phone as they made their way to the Palam railway station. Meena was apprehended at the hotel where he had been hiding in the Dwarka neighborhood of Delhi. According to authorities, he is accused of robbery, murder, and rape.

According to the preliminary inquiry, Meena was dependent on the online game “Teen Patti” to both make and lose money. In order to satisfy his erotic cravings, he would use the money to approach women.

In addition, he enjoyed gambling and frequently borrowed money from friends. “He would borrow money from other servants in the vicinity, or from domestic staff working in nearby households, without ever repaying them. This is why he was fired,” Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar said.

Meena stated that robbery was his only motivation during the initial interview, according to police sources. Before traveling to Delhi, he sold three cell phones—both his own and those of his relatives—to allay suspicions and avoid being tracked down. A portion of the funds were utilized for internet gambling.

The victim was an All-India topper in her class 12 exams and had finished her education at DPS RK Puram. She was getting ready for the UPSC exam after graduating from IIT Delhi.  She was a dancer as well, having won prizes in a number of dance contests.  The victim’s parents reportedly told her to get up early on Tuesday in order to study for the tough exam. Her new regimen began on Wednesday, the day of the terrible occurrence.
