India will feel the need for speed once more. This year, Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise, will be re-released in Indian theaters as part of the commemoration of its 40th anniversary.
The legendary 1986 hit and its 2022 follow-up, Top Gun: Maverick, will be re-released for a unique one-week theatrical run, Paramount Pictures announced on Thursday. On May 15, Tom Cruise’s Pete “Maverick” Mitchell will return to the big screen.
His rise to prominence at the box office in the 1980s was largely due to the film’s popularity. Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, Kelly McGillis, Meg Ryan, and Tom Skerritt played supporting parts in the movie, which was directed by the late Tony Scott.
Thirty-six years later, Tom Cruise made a comeback as Maverick in Top Gun: Maverick. In the follow-up, Maverick returns to Top Gun after almost thirty years of service, preparing a group of recent grads for a unique mission that no pilot alive has ever seen. Maverick meets Lt. Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), call sign: Rooster, the son of Radar Intercept Officer Lt. Nick Bradshaw, also known as Goose, and Maverick’s late friend.
Top Gun: Maverick was the top film of 2022 and the highest-grossing picture in Paramount Pictures’ history, earning nearly $1.5 billion at the global box office. In addition to Cruise, the ensemble cast of Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick included Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Monica Barbaro, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer. Tom Cruise is expected to return in the third installment of the franchise, which was just revealed.
