After Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Loses Rs 80,000 Crore In A Single Day, Gautam Adani May Soon Overtake Him As The Second-Richest Person In The World
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, may soon be surpassed as the second-richest person in the world by Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group and the richest man in India. After Bezos lost $9.84 billion (almost Rs 80,000 crore) in one day, the two billionaires’ net worth differences are now barely $3 billion.
As they were about $6 billion apart on 14th September, the gap in Adani and Bezos’s fortunes has narrowed in just one week.
The higher-than-anticipated US inflation figures on 13th September rocked Wall Street, causing the net worth of America’s wealthiest billionaires, including Bezos and the richest man in the world Elon Musk, to plummet. CEO of Tesla Musk’s wealth decreased by $8.4 billion (around Rs 70,000 crore). Adani, on the other hand, increased his fortune by $1.58 billion that day, bringing his total wealth to $147 billion.
Musk’s net worth is now reported to be $256 billion, Bezos’ net worth is $150 billion, while Adani’s net worth is reported to be $147 billion, putting him even closer to the second spot on the coveted rich list.
Adani is climbing the list of the world’s richest people quickly. He surpassed Mukesh Ambani, the head of Reliance Industries, to become the continent’s richest man in February of this year. Adani eclipsed Microsoft’s Bill Gates to become the fourth richest man in the world in July, two months after his net worth topped the $100 billion mark in February.
He advanced to third place on August 30 and became the first Asian to hold a position in the index’s top three. He overcame Bernard Arnault, a French entrepreneur, to rank third in terms of wealth.
The chairman of the Adani Group’s net worth has increased by $70.3 billion this year, largely due to an increase in the price of oil and natural gas. Separately, according to a recent ET report, Adani’s holdings in Adani Group companies have increased in value by $112 billion over the last two years, and his net worth has increased by 365 percent, from $30.7 billion to $142.7 billion. During this time, he rose from 40th to third place on the Bloomberg ranking of the world’s top billionaires.
