In The 2022 Berlin Marathon, Eliud Kipchoge Smashes The World Record

On September 25, Eliud Kipchoge broke his own world record by winning the Berlin marathon in a time of 2:01:09. The Kenyan athlete has now accomplished this feat twice at the event in the nation’s capital of Germany. Kipchoge’s previous best time for a 42.2 km official race was obtained on the same distance in 2018 at 2:01:39. Tigist Assefa of Ethiopia won the women’s competition in the third-fastest time in history and a course record of 2:15:37.
Who is Eliud Kipchoge?
The title of the best marathon runner in the world has long been held by Kipchoge. He achieved a feat that was previously thought to be unattainable by finishing the Vienna Marathon in under two hours in 2019. He ran it in a lab, so the outcome wasn’t official, but it cemented his status as an icon both inside and outside of the running community. The world record run by Kipchoge in Berlin was so impressive that he completed it before the runner in second place, who finished four minutes and 49 seconds later, had time to hug his coach, friends, and family.
