CBI Filed A Chargesheet In The Court Against Mamata’s Aide Anubrata
Anubrata Mondal, the leader of the Trinamool Congress, was detained by the CBI in connection with a cattle smuggling case, and the agency filed a 35-page chargesheet against him in a CBI court in Asansol on October 7.
Asansol Correctional Home is where Mondal is now being held on judicial remand.
In the CBI court in Asansol, the chargesheet was delivered by the central agency before Ratna Roy Biswas, a special vacation judge.
A team of CBI detectives detained the TMC’s Birbhum district president on August 11 at his home in Bolpur for reportedly refusing to assist with the agency’s investigation into the cattle smuggling case.
Prior to his detention, Mondal had repeatedly skipped meetings with CBI agents at their Nizam Palace headquarters in Kolkata for questioning.
In addition to fixed deposits totaling Rs 18 crore, the CBI purportedly located the rights to 53 properties connected to Mondal and mentioned them in its chargesheet, according to sources.
Additionally, they claimed that Mondal was complicit in aiding and abetting the smuggling of livestock.
According to agency sources, the CBI accused Mondal of aiding and abetting criminal conspiracy as well as violating other provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The agency requested Mondal’s custody trial as well, alleging that he has power and could try to sway witnesses if released on bail.
The alleged smuggling of cattle to Bangladesh is being looked into by the CBI.
