Two Shiv Senas In Maharashtra Acquire New Names, And Uddhav’s Party Emblem Is A Flaming Flame

The Shiv Sena’s name and emblem were frozen by the commission last week, and as a temporary measure, the two factions commanded by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde were asked to submit their suggestions for new names and insignia.

Both groups urged the EC to allow them to refer to their party as the Shiv Sena in their requests (Balasaheb Thackeray). The committee, which was made up of chief election commissioner Rajiv Kumar and election commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey, declined the plea, noting that this was the first choice of both groups.

The names that the two factions had proposed as alternates were accepted: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) for the side led by Uddhav Thackeray and Balasahebanchi Shivsena for the faction led by Eknath Shinde.

The Trishul (Trident) and Rising Sun emblems were also chosen by both factions as their top two choices for a party symbol.

The EC emphasized that the Trishul and Rising Sun could not be awarded because they were religious symbols and had already been given to Tamil Nadu’s ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, in addition to being claimed by both sections (DMK).

The final sign offered by the Uddhav group, a flaming torch, was not one of the free symbols listed by EC. The election watchdog first issued a decision declaring the flaming to be a free symbol before allocating it to the Uddhav group, according to the EC order, which highlighted that it was previously assigned to the Samata Party, which was derecognized in 2004.

The third election emblem selected by the Shinde faction was a Gadha (mace). Because it was a religious emblem, it was also rejected. By October 11 morning at 10 am, the Maharashtra chief minister is expected to return with a new list of preferred party symbols.

Of course, until the Commission makes a definitive ruling about the Shiv Sena name and party symbol, the temporary names and party emblems of the two Sena factions are essentially for use in the impending Andheri East bypoll.
