Rahul Gandhi Meets Adhir Chowdhury to Chart Congress Revival Strategy in West Bengal

Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has initiated discussions on rebuilding the party’s organisational strength in West Bengal amid the ongoing political turbulence surrounding the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Gandhi recently met former West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to assess the party’s prospects and outline an immediate roadmap for revival in the state.

The meeting comes at a time when the TMC is grappling with one of the most significant internal crises in its history, marked by resignations, dissent among legislators and growing uncertainty over the party’s future direction. Political observers believe the evolving situation may provide the Congress with an opportunity to regain relevance in a state where its influence has steadily declined over the past decade.

According to reports, Gandhi and Chowdhury deliberated on strengthening grassroots networks, reconnecting with traditional Congress supporters and identifying strategies to expand the party’s organisational reach. Discussions reportedly focused on rebuilding district-level units and energising party workers ahead of future electoral contests.

The Congress has struggled to establish a strong foothold in West Bengal in recent years, often finding itself overshadowed by the TMC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). However, party leaders believe that the current political flux could open new avenues for growth if the organisation succeeds in presenting itself as a credible alternative.

The meeting has also fuelled speculation regarding the broader political implications of the TMC’s internal challenges. Reports of defections and factional divisions within the regional party have dominated Bengal’s political landscape in recent weeks, prompting renewed discussions about possible realignments within the opposition space.  While Congress leaders have refrained from making detailed public comments about their electoral plans, the interaction between Gandhi and Chowdhury signals the party’s intention to re-engage actively in West Bengal politics.
