Mexico Makes A 2036 Olympic Bid
More than 50 years after the inaugural Summer Olympics, Mexico announced its bid to host the 2036 games on October 26.
“We’re starting the process to host the Olympic Games once more in 2036, “Head of the Mexican Olympic Committee Maria Jose Alcala spoke at a press conference alongside Marcelo Ebrard, the foreign minister.
Mexico was referred to by Ebrard as “a sporting power, “noting that it will be the first nation to co-host the 2024 FIFA Men’s World Cup with the United States and Canada.
The Olympic Games should come to Mexico in 2036, and if not, in 2040, he continued by saying that the key venues’ planned locations were still up in the air.
“Cities shouldn’t change to accommodate the Olympics. Large facilities that won’t be used immediately shouldn’t be constructed. It must be the other way around; towns should adapt to the Olympic Games “added Ebrard.
The country in Latin America would be hosting the Summer Games for the second time.
Mexico City, which is 2,240 meters (7,350 feet) above sea level, hosted the 1968 Olympics.
Along with the mayor of Istanbul, other nations that have indicated an interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics include Egypt and Indonesia.
