Apple Restores Telegram on App Store After Brief Removal Over CSAM

News Mania Desk/ Piyal Chatterjee/ 4th August 2026

Apple has restored Telegram on its App Store after briefly removing the messaging application worldwide following the discovery of content that violated the company’s rules concerning child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

The temporary takedown came after Apple identified prohibited material on the platform and raised the issue with Telegram. The messaging service subsequently removed the offending

content and banned the account responsible, paving the way for the app to return to Apple’s digital marketplace.

The episode highlights the growing pressure on major technology platforms to prevent the distribution of illegal and harmful content through their services. Apple maintains strict rules for applications distributed through its App Store, particularly when content involves the exploitation or abuse of children.

Despite the brief removal, existing Telegram users were reportedly able to continue using the application. The disruption was primarily linked to its availability through Apple’s App Store, rather than a complete shutdown of Telegram’s services. Users on other platforms were also able to access the messaging service.

Telegram’s return followed the company’s action against the material identified by Apple. The incident underlines the importance of cooperation between application developers and technology companies when violations of platform policies are detected.

The development comes as Telegram faces increasing scrutiny in several countries over the way it manages content and responds to illegal activity. The platform’s large user base and emphasis on privacy have made it popular for private communication, but authorities have also raised concerns about its misuse for unlawful purposes. In India, Telegram has come under regulatory attention over a range of alleged activities, including piracy, cybercrime, illegal drug-related networks and the circulation of examination papers. The platform’s approach to moderation and cooperation with authorities has consequently become an increasingly important issue.
