Jaishankar Calls for Reformed Multilateralism During Meeting with UN Envoys

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar interacted with Permanent Representatives to the United Nations from 17 countries who are currently visiting India on a study tour, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and representative global governance framework.

Sharing details of the meeting, Jaishankar said that “as the global order transforms, reformed multilateralism reflecting the aspirations of the Global South is the need of the hour.” He emphasized India’s commitment to ensuring that international institutions evolve to better represent developing nations and address contemporary global challenges.

The discussions also covered a broad range of strategic issues, including emerging technologies, maritime safety and security, UN peacekeeping operations, development partnerships, and disaster response cooperation. The interaction underscored India’s growing engagement with the international community and its role as a leading voice for the Global South.

Concluding the meeting, the External Affairs Minister extended his best wishes to the visiting diplomats, expressing hope that they would have a productive and pleasant stay in India. The visit forms part of India’s diplomatic outreach to strengthen partnerships and deepen engagement with UN member states.
