The campaign focuses on promoting cleanliness as a collective responsibility & creating greater awareness among railway employees, passengers, students & members of the railway community about solid waste management, source segregation, water conservation & sustainable cleanliness practices.
As part of the campaign, awareness and demonstration sessions on the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and four-way source segregation are being conducted for cleaning staff and passengers at railway stations. Similar awareness activities are also being organized for children of Railway schools and institutes encouraging them to adopt responsible waste disposal and segregation practices in their daily lives.
Under the initiative “Swachhata Gyan Yatra”, students of Railway schools and institutes are being taken on exposure visits to various railway facilities, including Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs), bio-toilet plants, water recycling plants and coach washing lines. These visits provide students with an opportunity to understand practical waste and water management systems and observe various Swachhata-related assets established on railway land.

To connect with passengers in an engaging and impactful manner, Nukkad Nataks were organized at major stations, including Kharagpur and Hijli. Through creative performances and simple messages, passengers are being sensitized about cleanliness, responsible waste disposal, segregation of waste and maintaining cleanliness in railway premises.
The campaign also includes thematic art competitions and quiz competitions in various Railway schools and institutes. These activities are designed to encourage students to express their ideas and knowledge on various Swachhata themes while promoting environmental consciousness and a sense of responsibility towards maintaining clean surroundings.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign in Kharagpur Division seeks to foster a Jan Bhagidari approach by involving railway employees, passengers, students, Scouts & Guides, NGOs and other stakeholders.
