Google has launched its new Fitbit Air fitness tracker in India, introducing a screen-free wearable designed to monitor health and fitness without the distractions associated with traditional smartwatches. The device has been priced at Rs 13,999 and will go on sale in the country from October 2.
The Fitbit Air is aimed at users who want continuous health and activity tracking without a display. Instead of showing notifications or other information on the wrist, the device records health data that can be viewed through the Google Health app on Android and iOS devices. The tracker can monitor a range of metrics, including steps, workouts, heart rate and sleep. It can also detect naps lasting 20 minutes or longer and offers enhanced sleep-tracking capabilities. The device is designed to provide users with a broader picture of their daily activity and rest patterns.
Google has also integrated artificial intelligence features into the Fitbit ecosystem. The Fitbit Air works with the Gemini-powered Google Health Coach, which can analyse information collected from the device and provide personalised insights. The system can take factors such as lifestyle, nutrition, injuries and weather into account when generating recommendations.
Battery life is another feature highlighted by Google. The Fitbit Air can operate for up to seven days on a single charge. A five-minute fast-charging session can provide up to 24 hours of battery life, allowing users to quickly recharge the device when required.
The tracker will be available in four colour options — Obsidian, Berry, Lavender and Fog. Its screen-free design puts it in the same category as wearable products such as Whoop, which focus primarily on collecting health data rather than displaying information directly on the device. Google is positioning the Fitbit Air as a comparatively accessible option in the growing screen-free fitness tracker segment. However, some of its advanced health features come with a subscription. Buyers receive a three-month trial of the Google Health Coach, after which continued access requires a paid subscription.
