Sneha, a second-year Bachelor of Science student. A student of Mathematics at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Delhi University, resided with her family in the Paryavaran Complex region of Delhi. She was reported missing on July 7.
Her remains were found in the Yamuna close to the Geeta Colony region in east Delhi. As per a message shared by her relatives, Sneha planned to leap from Signature Bridge, where her taxi driver claimed he had left her. Because of inadequate CCTV coverage in the vicinity, authorities have struggled to track Sneha’s path after she left the taxi.
Based on a missing person’s report filed by her older sister, Bipasha Debnath, Sneha informed their mother, Pinki Debnath, on the morning of July 7 that she would take her friend Pitunia to Sarai Rohilla Railway Station in central Delhi.
Bipasha mentioned that Sneha took a taxi driven by Subhe Chandra and departed from home at approximately 5:15 a.m. “When we tried calling her around 8:45 a.m., her phone was switched off,” Bipasha said in the complaint. “When I contacted Pitunia, she told me that she never met Sneha. I then took the cab driver’s number from Pitunia and called him. He said he had dropped Sneha at Signature Bridge in Wazirabad.”
Bipasha added that when the family followed up on the driver’s information, they found no sign of Sneha. “We thought someone might have kidnapped her from the spot,” she said.
After her vanishing, the Delhi Police along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) initiated an extensive search operation over a seven-kilometre area, but the attempts produced no immediate outcomes. Subsequent inquiry indicated that Sneha’s most recent identified location was close to Signature Bridge. Witnesses reported to the police that they observed a girl on the bridge prior to her disappearance.
A combined search by the local police and NDRF was subsequently carried out from Nigam Bodh Ghat to Noida. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha addressed the matter and instructed police to promptly act in finding Sneha.
“The report of Miss Sneha Debnath, a resident of Sabroom, who has reportedly gone missing in New Delhi, has come to the notice of the Chief Minister’s Office. Following this, necessary instructions have been promptly issued to the police to take immediate and appropriate action,” Saha had posted on social media.
