A major fire broke out at the Kolkata’s Alipore area on Wednesday, triggering an extensive firefighting operation and causing panic in one of the city’s prominent administrative zones.
According to officials, the blaze erupted at the government office building located near the Alipore Court complex. Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the structure as firefighters rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. At least 10 fire tenders were deployed to combat the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Authorities said emergency teams began evacuation and rescue operations soon after receiving information about the incident. Initial reports indicated that no one was trapped inside the premises, and no casualties or injuries had been reported at the time of filing the report. Firefighters continued cooling operations even after the flames were largely contained to eliminate the possibility of the fire reigniting.
The exact cause of the blaze remained unknown, with officials stating that a detailed investigation would be conducted once firefighting efforts were completed. Preliminary assessments suggested that several offices and important documents inside the building may have suffered damage, although the full extent of the losses was yet to be determined.
Police personnel were also deployed in the area to regulate traffic and maintain order as large crowds gathered near the site. The incident disrupted normal activities in the vicinity, given the presence of several government establishments and courts in the Alipore district.
