As the Bihar Assembly election results delivered a sweeping victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sharpened its attacks on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, ridiculing his electoral track record while the Opposition alleged irregularities in the voting process.
Early trends showed the NDA racing ahead with close to 199 seats in the 243-member Assembly, securing well over a two-thirds majority. In stark contrast, the Mahagathbandhan — comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, and other partners — struggled far behind with around 38 seats. The Congress, in particular, found itself reduced to a negligible presence with only a handful of wins.
Buoyed by the decisive mandate, BJP leaders wasted no time taking jabs at Rahul Gandhi. Senior party figures mocked what they described as an unbroken pattern of losses under his leadership, with one leader remarking that Gandhi would “win awards for consistency in defeat.” Another BJP MP quipped that Gandhi had now “lost 95 elections and counting,” calling it a reflection of the Opposition’s disconnect from voters.
BJP leaders framed the victory as a rejection of what they termed “jungle raj, gunda raj, caste politics and appeasement.” They said the results reaffirmed people’s trust in development-led governance, stability, and decisive leadership. The mood in the ruling camp remained jubilant, with leaders calling the mandate a clear endorsement of the state government’s performance and the NDA’s broader political vision.
However, the Opposition countered with strong criticism of the electoral process. Congress spokespersons accused the Election Commission of acting in a biased manner and claimed that early trends did not align with their internal assessments. They also alleged that large-scale voter-list manipulation had taken place, including the deletion of lakhs of names. Members of the Aam Aadmi Party supported these claims, arguing that the election had been compromised and demanding an investigation into the voter rolls.
With the NDA securing a dominating position in Bihar, the outcome is expected to have national implications, bolstering the BJP’s momentum ahead of upcoming electoral battles. Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan faces urgent questions about its strategy, cohesion, and leadership as it grapples with yet another major electoral setback.
