NEW DELHI: Member of Parliament from Assam’s Karimganj constituency, Kripanath Mallah, on Wednesday extended his warm wishes to the Srihatta Sammilani (Sylhet Union) on the occasion of its upcoming 150th anniversary, which the organisation will mark with year-long celebrations beginning on February 7, 2026, in Kolkata.

Describing the milestone as a moment of pride and deep gratitude for the entire Sylheti community, Mallah expressed hope that the celebrations would further strengthen the organisation’s legacy and its enduring contribution to society.

Founded in 1876 by visionary and patriotic leaders including Dr. Sundari Mohan Das, Bipin Chandra Pal, and Tarakishore Choudhury, popularly known as Swami Santadas Babaji, the Srihatta Sammilani was established on the principles of service, unity, and national consciousness.

The organisation later drew strength from the leadership and guidance of eminent national figures such as Gurusaday Dutta and Dr. Triguna Sen, who helped elevate it to greater heights.
For nearly 150 years, the Srihatta Sammilani has remained committed to its founding ideals, playing a vital role in promoting education, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering social development, while uniting Sylhetis across India and the world, the organisation said.
