In Kulgam, south Kashmir, a nighttime shootout claimed the lives of two troops and wounded another two. One of the longest military operations against terrorists in the Valley in recent years, the encounter began nine days ago in Akhal.
Two troops were confirmed dead by the Army during the fierce gunfire that took place on Friday and Saturday night.
“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of the Bravehearts, L/Nk Pritpal Singh and Sep Harminder Singh, in line of duty for the Nation,” the Army’s Valley-based Chinar Corps posted on X. “Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Indian Army expresses deepest condolences and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families.”
According to police reports, terrorists opened fire on the military as they advanced through the thick woodland throughout the night, injuring four soldiers and killing two of them. This shootout has resulted in six troops being wounded.
On the first day of the conflict, one militant was also slain. According to sources, the operation has taken longer since the soldiers are advancing cautiously and slowly due to the difficult terrain and deep woodland.
According to sources, they have information on the existence of four to five terrorists in the region. The Army dispatched troops and put drones, unmanned armed vehicles (UAVs), and helicopters into duty following the first day’s first gunfight.
