Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Defence Manufacturing Complex in Shirdi

News Mania Desk/ 28th May 2026

Rajnath Singh and Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a private sector Defence Manufacturing Complex of NIBE Group at Shirdi, marking a major step toward strengthening India’s indigenous defence ecosystem.
During the event, India’s first 300-km Universal Rocket Launching System, “Suryastra,” was flagged off, while the foundation stone for a missile complex was also laid. Indigenous TNT Plant Technology, RDX Plant Technology, and a Renewable Bio-Energy Compressed Biogas Plant were unveiled. An MoU between NIBE Group and BlackSky for satellite assembly cooperation was also exchanged.

Addressing the gathering, Rajnath Singh emphasized that self-reliance in defence is essential not only for war preparedness but also for peace, economic resilience, and national development. He stressed that future warfare would increasingly depend on munitions, automation, and advanced technologies rather than troop size alone.
The Defence Minister highlighted the growing contribution of the private sector in India’s defence manufacturing, which has risen from negligible levels to nearly 25–30 percent, with a target to reach 50 percent in the coming years. He credited reforms such as Make-in-India, Positive Indigenisation Lists, iDEX, ADITI, and liberalised FDI norms for accelerating indigenous defence production.
The new complex is expected to manufacture advanced artillery systems, missile technologies, rocket systems, energetic materials, autonomous defence platforms, and satellite components. Officials stated that the project would create employment opportunities, strengthen MSMEs and ancillary industries, and help transform India into a global hub for munitions and automation technologies.
