A temple and a mosque were among several structures demolished in an extensive overnight operation carried out by authorities in Faridabad, Haryana, as part of efforts to clear land for the upcoming Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor and associated infrastructure projects.
The demolition drive was conducted under tight security arrangements, with a large contingent of police personnel deployed across the area to maintain law and order. Officials said the operation began late at night and continued into the early hours of the morning to minimize disruptions and prevent potential tensions arising from the removal of religious structures.
According to the administration, the temple and mosque were located on land earmarked for the transit corridor and related road development works. Authorities stated that the structures were included in the approved clearance plan and that the demolition was necessary to facilitate the progress of key infrastructure projects aimed at improving regional connectivity.
Given the sensitive nature of the operation, district authorities imposed temporary restrictions on mobile internet and bulk SMS services in parts of Faridabad. Officials said the precautionary measure was taken to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation that could lead to unrest. Essential communication services, banking operations and other critical services were exempted from the restrictions.
Security personnel established barricades and monitored the affected areas throughout the operation. Senior administrative and police officials remained present on the ground to oversee the demolition and ensure that the process was completed without incident.
The land-clearing exercise forms part of preparations for the Regional Rapid Transit System, an ambitious transportation project designed to enhance connectivity across the National Capital Region. The high-speed transit network is expected to reduce travel time, improve public transportation options and support economic growth in the region.
While the demolition of religious structures often attracts public attention due to its sensitive implications, authorities maintained that the action was carried out in accordance with established procedures and development plans. Officials stressed that all structures identified as obstacles to the project were being removed as part of a broader effort to ensure timely completion of the corridor.
