Malayali-Processed Jupiter Photos Are Released By NASA

The raw photographs captured by NASA spacecraft on various missions are processed to perfection by science enthusiasts all over the world. For many people, it’s a passion. Even the US space agency has recognized some of their processed works. The Angamaly native Navaneeth Krishnan received fame after NASA released four of the photographs he edited from its Jupiter Mission.

Navaneeth, an editor at the Kerala State Institute of Children’s Literature in Thiruvananthapuram, recently edited the image of Jupiter’s Northern Cyclones captured by JunoCam, the spacecraft’s public engagement camera. Navaneeth received praise from NASA for improving the image’s color and contrast.

On September 29, 2022, a picture of a cyclone located in Jupiter’s northernmost region, close to the gas giant’s north pole, was taken by him.

Just above the northernmost cyclone, a small anticyclone that rotates in the opposite direction has gotten close enough to go inside. The image, which displays details as small as 11.6 miles wide, was captured on Juno’s 45th approach to Jupiter from a height of 17,248 miles. Image processing by citizen scientist Navaneeth Krishnan S improved the contrast and color of the photos.

Navaneeth has a degree in PG Physics and has a strong interest in astrophysics.

The first image that Navaneeth processed and published was of the Great Red Spot and Jupiter’s South Temperate Belt. The second was a photograph of Europa obtained on September 29, 2022, at a height of about 1,500 kilometers. He also analyzed and distributed by the agency a photograph of a storm called Oval BA in Jupiter.

This process, in which many space enthusiasts take part, has no financial component. Along with many other science enthusiasts of all ages, including kids and adults, Navaneeth is a member of the Aastro Kerala Organization.
