Kuki-Meitei co-existence not possible anymore: Kuki leader

Prashanta Barua

NEW DELHI – There seems to be no let-up in the overall situation in Manipur, where many people were killed in the 100-day long conflict between two groups in the north eastern state.

A number of disturbing video clips suggested the magnitude of the clash between Meitei and the Kuki Zo tribes that displaced thousands of people across the BJP ruled states.

BJP leaders, mostly, are keeping mum while other opposition parties have been blaming it all on the State and Centre. Prime Minister broke silent only after the Supreme Court asked the government to act tough.

Kuki leaders said that there was no chance for the tribe to co-exist peacefully with the Meiteis.

Talking to www.newsmania.co.in, Vice President of the World Kuki Zo Intellectual Council N Lalboi, there is no alternative other than to have a separate administrative system for this tribe.

“See, the situation, precisely, is very deplorable. Our state is caught in a crucial juncture. The need of the hour is peace and normalcy indeed,” he said.

He maintained that the reason of the bloodbath was very simple. “The Meiteis want to occupy the plot belonging to the Kuki Zo tribe people. They want to grab the natural resources. They want to control the economy. Apart from these, they want to grab the top State Government posts by hook or by crook,” he said.

According to him, the Meiteis suddenly came out to forcibly dominate the politics, bureaucracy and economy.

He said, “I would say Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leisemba Sanajaoba are the main architects of this gruesome chapter. The Chief Minister himself is from the Arambai Tenggol, a terrorist group. The Maharaja belongs to the Meitei Leepun, another terrorist group. As on date, both the groups are well equipped to be deployed to uproot the Kuki Zo tribe.”

N Biren Singh should be removed immediately but the co-existence of the Meiteis and Kukis again are not possible, maintained Lalboi.

He slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s studied silence and said Union Home Minister Amit Shah would listen to Biren Singh since the duo think that the BJP retained power only because of N Biren Singh adding that Singh was still most trusted for the Centre.

Defending the debate in the European Parliament, Lalboi said , “The debate in the European Parliament suggests an utter violation of human rights where more than 100 died, over 50 missing, 31,410 have been displaced, 237 churches were set on fire and 141 villages were burnt down by the miscreants.”

On the immediate measure to end the chance of further violence, he demanded a separate administration for the Kukis.

These people have separate identity in social and cultural lives and that’s why, a separate political life and administration would make them calm, he added.
