According to many sources , Pakistani attacks on the east Afghan province of Kunar have left at least seven people dead and 75 injured, including students and a professor at Kunar University.
Thirty of the injured are university students, according to the Taliban government.
Pakistan’s communication minister said the allegations were false and denied that the university and residential areas had been attacked. The Kunar attacks were reported a few weeks after a Pakistani airstrike on a drug rehab facility in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, which is now known to have killed 269 people, according to the UN.
The Taliban claim that rockets and mortars were used in the attack on Kunar province, but other sources told the that drones and jets were also utilized. It was informed by an anonymous lecturer at Kunar University that he had heard horrifying explosions all throughout the campus.
He claimed to have witnessed individuals fleeing the town center during the assault and to be aware of a number of citizens who had been hurt and taken to the hospital. The university’s facilities and surroundings had sustained significant damage, according to a statement from Afghanistan’s minister of higher education.
In recent months, cross-border combat between Pakistan and Afghanistan has resulted in hundreds of deaths or injuries.A precarious ceasefire had mostly maintained over the previous four weeks after Chinese mediation led to negotiations between the two parties in Urumqi in early April.
In order to avoid jeopardizing negotiations, Taliban commanders chose not to openly discuss Pakistan or any of its previous airstrikes during this ceasefire.
The Taliban government’s deputy spokesperson, Hamdullah Fitrat, declared that the strikes on Kunar are “grave and inexcusable war crimes, a blatant act of brutality, and a provocative action” in an attempt to break the silence.
Pakistan has previously stated that its airstrikes target militant hideouts in Afghanistan. Pakistan has also been acting as a mediator in the conflict between Iran and the United States.
Pakistan used to be a significant supporter of the Taliban, but ties soured after Islamabad accused the group of giving the Pakistan Taliban group, which started an armed insurgency against government forces, a safe haven.
