After Partha Chatterjee, Mamata Banerjee dumps tainted minister Paresh Adhikari from West Bengal Cabinet
Kolkata: After removing Partha Chatterjee as minister, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, on Wednesday, shunned yet another tainted minister from her Cabinet. While inducting fresh faces, Banerjee removed Paresh Adhikari, who was holding the responsibility as a state minister after the ouster of Chatterjee, was also omitted from the Cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday. The move came after a PIL was filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking directions to remove Adhikari, MoS Education, alleging that he was one of the direct beneficieries of the alleged SSC scam. In the PIL, the BJP has argued that the Calcutta High Court’s order proves beyond doubt that Adhikari misused his power to ‘unethically to get his daughter Ankita Adhikari appointed as a higher secondary political science teacher illegally superseding another eligible candidate’.
According to reports, Ankita Adhikari has been asked to return two years of salary and was dismissed from the school upon directions from the Calcutta High Court.
BJP demands ouster of Adhikari
“In more embarrassment for Mamata Banerjee, a PIL has been filed in the Calcutta HC seeking direction for removal of Paresh Adhikari, MoS Education, a direct beneficiary of the #SSCScam, till such time the investigation is ongoing. Copy to be served on WB Govt. Listed for Friday (sic),” said BJP’s Amit Malviya.
This is the latest in the ongoing saga in the WBSSC recruitment irregularities scam, in which Partha Chatterjee has already been arrested. The TMC stripped him of his portfolios and also removed him from the party. In a series of raids conducted last month, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) recovered over Rs 50 crore in cash and undisclosed assets from premises linked to Partha Chatterjee.
