Dhanteras 2026 will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, marking the beginning of the five-day Diwali festival. The occasion, also known as Dhantrayodashi, holds special significance for Hindus, who worship Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Kubera and Lord Dhanvantari to seek wealth, prosperity, good health and happiness.

According to the Hindu lunar calendar, the Trayodashi Tithi begins at 10:30 AM on November 6 and concludes at 10:47 AM on November 7. Devotees observe the festival by performing special prayers and purchasing precious metals, jewellery and household items, as these purchases are traditionally believed to bring good fortune.

For those observing the festival in New Delhi, the Dhanteras Puja Muhurat will be from 6:02 PM to 7:57 PM on November 6. The Pradosh Kaal, considered an auspicious period for evening worship, will begin at 5:32 PM and continue until 8:09 PM. Devotees are advised to check local timings as the auspicious window may differ depending on their location.

One of the important traditions associated with Dhanteras Puja is the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, and Lord Kubera, who is associated with prosperity. Lord Dhanvantari, regarded as the divine physician and associated with Ayurveda, is also worshipped on this occasion. Buying gold and silver is among the most popular customs observed during Dhanteras. Many families purchase coins, ornaments, utensils and other valuable items, believing that such acquisitions bring prosperity throughout the year.

Another important ritual is Yama Deepam, during which devotees light an oil lamp in the evening to seek protection from untimely death and pray for the well-being of their families. With prayers, traditional shopping and festive preparations, Dhanteras 2026 marks the beginning of the celebrations leading up to Diwali, bringing families together to welcome prosperity, health and happiness.
