Jeff Bezos, the creator of Amazon, lost $9.8 billion (about 80,000 crores) in a single day, while Elon Musk, the richest person on earth, saw his wealth fall by $8.35 billion (almost 70,000 crores). According to reports, the richest people in the world have seen a significant loss in wealth.
Mukesh Ambani, the CEO of Reliance Industries, and Gautam Adani are the only two billionaires on the top 10 list whose wealth has not decreased over the course of a single day. Ambani made $1.23 billion (9,775 crores), and his solo 5G services are scheduled to go live by Diwali. Adani, who is currently the third richest man in the world, gained $1.58 billion (12,556 crores), according to the index.
Other top 10 billionaires that had wealth losses in a single day were Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Larry Page, Bernard Arnault, and Sergey Brin.
According to a survey published in July, Bezos lost $63 billion while Musk’s wealth decreased by over $62 billion in the first half of 2022. The 500 wealthiest people on earth lost $1.4 trillion in the first half of this year.
After being unchanged in July, the US consumer price index climbed by 0.1% this month. Prices increased 8.3% from a year earlier, a modest slowdown but still higher than the median expectation of 8.1%. According to Bloomberg, the so-called core CPI, which excludes the more volatile food and energy components, also exceeded expectations.
After US equities had their largest decline in more than two years, with the S&P 500 falling more than 4% and the Nasdaq 100 falling more than 5%, equity indexes in Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia fell precipitously. While US contracts eked out a small gain, European equities futures declined.
