Jadavpur University Teacher Charged With Attacking A Student On The Basis Of Caste

A Ph.D. student was allegedly insulted by a department assistant professor on the basis of her caste identification by resorting to phrases like a quota, according to a letter sent by the department head of Jadavpur University to vice-chancellor Suranjan Das.

According to a JU representative, the student, who falls under the OBC category, had the assistant professor supervise his or her research.

Because she believed her research was not moving along as she would have liked, the student had written to the authorities pleading for her supervisor to be changed.

Teachers from the department of international relations who are on the Ph.D. research committee (PRC) met last month to discuss the student’s request. The student claims that the assistant professor attacked her during the discussion by making caste-related remarks.

Iman Kalyan Lahiri, the department’s chief, later wrote the VC in a letter citing the PRC’s decision.

The teacher claimed the accusations were baseless and ludicrous after being approached.

Any claim can be made by anyone. However, such must be supported.

The girl claimed to this newspaper that she asked for her guide’s release since she was not receiving the guidance she needed.
