“Kazakhstan keen to expand business ties with India”: His Excellency Mr. Yeskarayev Azamat, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to India
Merchants’ Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) hosted a Special Session on “Expanding Trade Vistas between India and Kazakhstan” at the Crystal Hall, Taj Bengal on 28th July 2026. The high-profile business dialogue welcomed His Excellency Mr. Yeskarayev Azamat, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to India, alongside regional industry leaders and diplomats. The session focused on driving investments, technological innovation, and leveraging West Bengal as a commercial gateway to Central Asia.
Kazakhstan, a key economy in Central Asia, is keen to expand business ties with India and particularly West Bengal, ambassador of Republic of Kazakhstan in India Azamat Yeskarayev said.
Speaking at an interactive session, the Kazakhstan envoy said the country gives priority to actively engage with the officials, business leaders, politicians and academia in India.
He said both Kazakhstan and India possess huge opportunity for potential cooperation and the country is will spread business relationship with India. The envoy said Kazakhstan provides a conducive business environment, adding the country has a strong base on pharmaceuticals, mining, energy and manufacturing.
The Kazakhstan envoy said the country is looking to expand business ties with West Bengal, which serves as a gateway to the Northeast India and South East Asian countries.
The entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan are willing to open up business opportunities in West Bengal. “A high level delegation from Kazakhstan is to visit India in September and hold parleys with various business houses of India including the Tatas”, he said.
A business forum is also scheduled to be held in Chennai, he said. The Kazakhstan envoy will meet West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari tomorrow.
In his welcome address, Mr. Munish Jhajharia, Senior Vice President of MCCI, highlighted the rapidly growing strategic importance of Central Asian partnerships. While the relationship is strongly anchored in mutual trust, the chamber emphasized transitioning from conventional trade to robust investments, digital collaboration, and sustainable development.
Delivering the keynote address, Mr. Vishal Jhajharia, Past President of MCCI and Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Kolkata, mentioned that while Kazakhstan is Central Asia’s largest economy—packed with oil, natural gas, uranium, and rare earth minerals—current trade figures represent only a fraction of its true potential. The economy is targeted to touch USD 450 billion by 2029.
He highlighted several sectors which deserve particular attention such as Tea, food processing and agri-products, Pharmaceuticals and medical devices, Engineering and capital goods, Leather and textiles, Chemicals and speciality chemicals, Logistics and warehousing, IT, fintech and digital innovation, Education and research partnerships, Tourism and hospitality, green energy and sustainable technologies.
The forum evaluated West Bengal’s unique position as the industrial, logistic and multimodal gateway to Eastern and North-Eastern India.
Mr. Arun Kumar Garodia, Chairman, Council on Foreign Trade, MCCI emphasized active collaboration in a variety of fast-growing sectors between the two countries.
