After a ten-day hunt, the Hyderabad Army’s weapons theft was discovered, and an insider was taken into custody.

After a 10-day investigation, a combined team from Telangana Counter Intelligence, Hyderabad Task Force, and Malkajgiri Police was able to uncover the theft of a cache of military-grade weapons from the Madras Regiment armoury in Secunderabad. All of the stolen weapons and ammunition were recovered.

A Lieutenant Colonel of the Madras Regiment reported the theft at the Bollaram Police Station in Hyderabad’s Malkajgiri police zone on August 31. The complaint states that a sizable cache of guns and ammunition was discovered missing and that the locks of two armoury storage rooms, which are roughly 40 meters apart, had been smashed.

The stolen items included:

Four 7.62×39 mm AK-203 assault rifles

One 5.56 mm INSAS 1B1 rifle

Six 9 mm Auto 1A pistols

One 6.35-bore civilian pistol

Twenty-one magazines

One passive night-vision binocular

More than 1,900 rounds of live ammunition

After detaining and interviewing an insider, investigators reportedly achieved a significant breakthrough.

Before focusing on important suspects, the multi-agency investigation, which included central agencies, military intelligence, and local police, first questioned about ten employees. With the robbery reportedly helped by malfunctioning CCTV cameras and insufficiently supervised nite guards, investigators began to suspect an insider-led plot.

Even though all of the lost military hardware has been found, officials are still looking into the weapons’ transportation network, potential connections to the black market, and each person’s involvement. Soon, a formal statement outlining the charges and arrests is anticipated.
