“There are no short cuts in life:” Boman Irani, Actor, story teller and motivational speaker
MCCI organised its 125th Anniversary Celebration with Mr. Boman Irani, Actor, Director & Motivational Speaker, on Saturday, 5 September 2026 at Crystal Hall, Taj Bengal.
Mr. Boman Irani said the there are no short cuts in life and every person needs to be happy to tide over difficult times.
He shared that he was a very shy person during his childhood. He used to suffer from anxiety and had learning disabilities like dysgraphia, dyslexia. and speech problem with a lisp.
Losing his father early, Mr. Irani was groomed by his mother and grandparents who taught him to overcome adversities in life.
“I grew up with anxiety. Had learning disabilities and people used to call me duffer and made fun of me”, he said.
But after all these years, now 66 years, he said that his children must be happy.
Mr. Irani said that he decided to tell stories as a professional to empower people.
Mr. Irani then started his job as a waiter at the Taj Hotel in Mumbai before dabbling with photography from which he made windfall money.
“There are no short cuts in life. A person needs to be happy to tide over difficult times”, he said.
He also said in life, it is important that one should not make any excuses for not having something.
Earlier, Ms. Priti A. Sureka, President, MCCI in her Welcome Address said that MCCI has inherited a remarkable legacy. Our responsibility is to build on it to remain an institution that serves industry, encourages enterprise, facilitates meaningful dialogue and creates a platform for the ideas and aspirations of the next generation.
She added that Mr. Boman Irani needs very little introduction. His remarkable journey to becoming one of India’s most loved actors and storytellers is itself a reminder that there is no single path to success.
The session ended with a hearty Vote of Thanks proposed by Mr. Munish Jhajharia, Senior Vice President, MCCI and he said that while we feel motivated and inspired to do better by Mr. Irani’s address, we are also grateful to him for sharing these valuable thoughts about Bollywood with us.
