Guwahati, September 25: The Guwahati Declaration, adopted by the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies in July, has received formal recognition in the BRICS New Delhi Declaration. The BRICS leaders welcomed the Guwahati Declaration as a framework to strengthen operational and technical cooperation among anti-drug agencies in tackling illicit narcotics trafficking. The declaration focuses on real-time intelligence sharing, coordinated enforcement, innovative technologies and data-driven approaches to combat transnational drug networks. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the recognition, saying it gives greater international visibility to Assam’s efforts against narcotics trafficking and is particularly significant given the state’s location along a major drug-trafficking corridor.
