Historic ‘Hooghly Sankalp – MENU 2026’ Riverine Sailing Expedition Flagged Off at Farakka

FARAKKA, WEST BENGAL: The multi-district riverine sailing expedition “Hooghly Sankalp – MENU 2026” was ceremonially flagged off from the Lockgate Jetty at Farakka on September 25, marking the beginning of a 20-day journey towards Kolkata.

Major General APS Chahal, SM, Additional Director General, West Bengal & Sikkim NCC Directorate, flagged off the expedition involving 60 selected Naval NCC cadets from West Bengal and Sikkim. The event was attended by civil-military dignitaries, district administration officials and representatives of partner agencies.

Addressing the gathering, Maj Gen Chahal described the expedition as a “floating classroom”, offering cadets an opportunity to develop maritime skills, leadership qualities, teamwork and discipline. The young sailors, comprising both boys and girls, will cover approximately 410 km along the Hooghly River, halting at seven locations for community development and social outreach activities.As part of the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, 150 saplings were also planted in collaboration with Shri Sanjay Jaisingh, Founder of Mithri Mitti Trust.The expedition seeks to promote youth empowerment, environmental conservation, adventure and national integration.
