Karan Johar Plans Film on Dharmendra–Shabana Azmi Love Story from ‘Rocky Aur Rani’

Celebrated filmmaker Karan Johar has hinted at developing a new film centered on the heartwarming love story between veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, characters who played a pivotal emotional role in his 2023 romantic drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. As the film marked its two-year anniversary, Johar reflected on its enduring impact and revealed that the mature romance between Jamini (Azmi) and Kanwal (Dharmendra) may be worthy of its own cinematic exploration.

Speaking in an interview, Johar said their brief but powerful kiss on screen became one of the most talked-about moments in the film, surprising and moving audiences. The filmmaker expressed that their chemistry conveyed deep, unspoken affection, making it a standout element. He added that the idea of expanding their storyline into a full-length feature has been lingering in his mind, as he believes their story was rich in emotional depth and deserved more space.

Johar also reaffirmed his affection for Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, calling it one of his most beloved directorial ventures alongside My Name Is Khan and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The film, which starred Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, was praised for blending family drama with unconventional love stories.
