News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 27th September 2025

As Durga Puja 2025 unfolds, actress Raima Sen, granddaughter of legendary actress Suchitra Sen, reflects on the significance of the festival and her family’s traditions. While her work commitments in Mumbai prevent her from participating in the early days of the festivities, she plans to join her family in Kolkata towards the end to celebrate.

Raima shares that her family doesn’t adhere to a single tradition but emphasizes the importance of reuniting with relatives during this time. A cherished custom involves her mother purchasing five new sarees and jewelry for each family member, symbolizing renewal and togetherness. Raima also mentions that during Durga Puja, she and her family make it a point not to diet, indulging in traditional Bengali delicacies without restraint.

The actress fondly recalls her childhood memories of celebrating Durga Puja at her grandmother’s house, where the family would dress up, draw alpana (traditional floor art), and enjoy meals served on banana leaves. These gatherings were marked by joy, dancing, and a strong sense of community.

Although her current schedule limits the time she can dedicate to the festival, Raima appreciates the opportunity to inaugurate pandals and judge decorations during her visits to Kolkata. This involvement allows her to experience the vibrant celebrations and witness the artistic expressions that define Durga Puja.

Through her reflections, Raima Sen highlights the enduring cultural and familial bonds that make Durga Puja a time of joy, indulgence, and unity.
