Double-Engine Boost for Odisha: Shivraj Singh Chouhan and CM Majhi Launch Major Development Projects

Rayagada (Odisha), May 1, 2026 – Marking a significant milestone in Odisha’s rural development, Union Minister for Rural Development and Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated a series of transformative projects in Rayagada today.
On the occasion of International Labour Day, Minister Chouhan handed over the sanction letter for PMGSY-IV, allocating ₹1,700 crore to construct 827 new roads spanning 1,702 km. This initiative aims to provide all-weather connectivity to Odisha’s most remote and hilly terrains.
Reinforcing the “Double-Engine” government’s commitment to “Prosperous Odisha,” the Union Minister announced a massive financial package:
₹630.61 crore for PMAY-G to ensure “no poor person lives in a kucha house.”
₹868.71 crore as the first installment for MGNREGA (FY 2026-27).
₹30.07 crore for watershed development (WDC-PMKSY 2.0).
CM Mohan Charan Majhi lauded the Center’s support, stating that these projects would serve as lifelines for rural livelihoods, healthcare, and education. The event also highlighted initiatives for ‘Lakhpati Didis’ and farmer prosperity through scientific farming and infrastructure funds. The leaders emphasized that these efforts are a step toward the vision of a “Viksit Odisha.”
