Aizawl Bans Animal Fights Tied to Betting in Mizoram

News Mania Desk / 26th June 2025

In a decisive move against illegal gambling and animal cruelty, the Aizawl district administration in Mizoram has imposed a complete ban on animal fights linked to betting activities. The decision, announced on Wednesday, comes in response to recent reports of such events being organized in and around the state capital, Aizawl.
Authorities expressed concern over the rise of these cruel practices, which involve using animals—often roosters or other domesticated species—for public fights where spectators place bets. The administration emphasized that such activities not only violate animal rights but also promote unlawful gambling and social unrest.
The district magistrate issued the ban under relevant provisions of the law, warning that strict legal action will be taken against organizers, participants, and anyone found promoting or attending such events. Police have been directed to monitor areas where such incidents are likely and to act swiftly on any leads.
Animal rights groups and concerned citizens have welcomed the move, urging for stronger enforcement and awareness to prevent recurrence. The administration reiterated its commitment to upholding animal welfare laws and maintaining public order in the region.
