Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced multiple directives, including one for the establishment of a monitoring cell to provide regular updates on the ongoing infrastructure projects in the city, officials stated on Saturday.
During a recent gathering with senior officials and leaders of government departments, she requested weekly updates from them regarding different schemes, projects, and programs, they reported.
The chief minister requested cooperation and assistance from the officials to guarantee the government meets its objectives, as the public has “great expectations” from it. A senior government officer mentioned that she is assured the bureaucracy will fulfill her expectations in serving the public. Gupta instructed Chief Secretary Dharmendra to establish a monitoring unit under his supervision to enhance oversight of infrastructure projects and provide regular reports to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), according to the officer.
The BJP administration, in its inaugural budget of Rs one lakh crore for the fiscal year 2025-26 presented in the Assembly in March, has focused significantly on infrastructure development in Delhi. The budget increased the government’s capital expenditure to Rs 28,000 crore for 2025-26, doubling it from the last financial year. A budget of Rs 1,000 crore has been set aside to enhance connectivity in the NCR area.
During the meeting, the Delhi Chief Minister instructed all departments to establish targets and determine timelines for completing tasks promptly, remarked another official from the Delhi government. The chief minister also urged all administrative secretaries to draft agenda items for the proposals from various departments to be presented before the Council of Ministers, emphasizing the importance of timely execution of Cabinet decisions, he noted.
She further mentioned that any urgent issues needing her approval should be immediately communicated to her without delay via the chief secretary, he stated. She further instructed the chief secretary to provide the CMO with weekly updated progress reports concerning various schemes, projects, and programs from different departments, he noted.
Additionally, officials noted that she oversaw routine field visits by senior officers to ensure the efficient implementation and oversight of projects. She mentioned several deficiencies and flaws observed by her during her visits to schools, hospitals, and roads, and instructed the officers to resolve those, they stated.
