Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez held high-level discussions aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in energy, trade, investment and other strategic sectors, signalling a renewed push to strengthen ties between the two countries.
The meeting took place during Rodríguez’s official visit to India and focused on expanding collaboration in areas where both nations see significant opportunities for mutual growth. Energy emerged as the key topic of discussion, with both sides exploring ways to enhance cooperation in oil production, refining and related industries.
India, one of the world’s largest consumers of energy, has increasingly turned to Venezuela as a source of crude oil amid evolving global market conditions. Venezuela, which possesses some of the largest proven oil reserves in the world, is seeking to expand its economic partnerships and boost exports to key markets. Officials from both countries highlighted the complementary nature of their economies, noting that closer engagement could benefit both sides.
The leaders also discussed avenues to increase trade and investment beyond the energy sector. Areas such as pharmaceuticals, healthcare, mining, agriculture, infrastructure development and renewable energy were identified as potential fields for future collaboration. The talks reflected a broader effort to diversify economic ties and encourage greater participation by businesses from both countries.
Rodríguez’s visit includes meetings with senior government officials, industry representatives and business leaders. The engagement is expected to pave the way for new agreements and initiatives aimed at strengthening commercial and diplomatic relations.
The discussions come at a time when India is working to diversify its energy sources and secure stable supplies to support its growing economy. Strengthening ties with resource-rich countries such as Venezuela forms an important part of this strategy. At the same time, Venezuela is looking to attract investment and expand its presence in international markets as it seeks to revive economic growth.
Observers believe the talks underscore the importance both nations place on expanding long-term cooperation. With energy security remaining a priority for India and Venezuela seeking stronger global partnerships, the meeting is being viewed as a significant step toward enhancing bilateral relations.
