Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Rezzak Khan, 38, was shot several times and then brutally killed in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Thursday night.
The event occurred in the Chaltaberia region of Bhangar as Khan was heading home after being at a party gathering. As per police sources, unknown assailants shot Khan three times in succession, after which they brutally killed him.
Khan, residing in the Maricha region, served as the TMC president for Chaltaberia and was recognized for his close ties with party MLA Saokat Mollah. After the incident, Mollah, the MLA representing Canning Purba constituency, blamed the Indian Secular Front (ISF) for Khan’s murder, a claim the party refuted.
“Under the instruction of MLA Naushad Siddiqui, ISF miscreants murdered Rezzak. We are demanding strong action against all the culprits,” Mollah said.
Khan’s remains have been forwarded for an autopsy. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has arrived at the location to supervise the inquiry. Rezzak was initially affiliated with Arabul Islam, a TMC leader in Bhangar, but eventually changed his allegiance to the Mollah faction.
